![]() | Transplant Vigil: Diane Bottino's StoryDiane Bottino stood vigil in the hospital for 29 days while her husband Joe awaited a liver transplant. Listen to her story and learn why she's an advocate for Family House. |
It has been three years since Joe passed away while hospitalized with liver failure due to Hepatitis C. At the time of his death, Joe was critically ill and at the highest priority level on the waiting list for a liver transplant. During the months that Joe was hospitalized, his family traveled back and forth between their home in New Jersey and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to be by his side.

In addition to commemorating Joe’s life, this event is also being held to raise awareness for organ donation and the devastating impact that this situation places on the patients and their families. Currently, more than 4,200 New Jersey residents remain on the waiting list. Last year, Dianne Bottino testified in support of the “New Jersey Hero Act”, a bill that makes New Jersey the first state to require all new drivers and those renewing their license to either sign up as an organ donor or indicate that they have designated someone to make the decision for them after their death.
Zoom+ Debra Roberts, Sandi Petrelli and Dianne Bottino thank everyone for their support.
With this important legislation passed, the Bottino family is now focusing their support on the Gift of Life Family House, a program that will provide temporary lodging and supportive services to families of transplant patients traveling to Philadelphia to receive their life-saving transplant care. Because of their experiences, the Bottino family understands firsthand why the Family House is such a critical resource for transplant families and is committed to helping other families. All proceeds from the event will benefit Gift of Life Family House and will be used to establish a fund in Joe’s name to underwrite one of thirty guest rooms in the Gift of Life Family House.
Thank you to all our sponsors, Ritz Theatre, AtlantiCare, Wegmans, The Petrelli Family and PB Cosmetology Education Centre for supporting this event.
