Families staying at Gift of Life Family House are asked to pay a nominal guest fee of $40 per night per family in exchange for their room, meals, secure parking, van transportation to/from area hospitals, communal kitchen and living room areas, laundry facilities, and library and educational resources. Funds raised through the Adopt-A-Family Program are used to offset the difference between the actual operating costs ($160) and the amount families are asked to pay ($40). In addition, the Adopt-A-Family Program also provides support for those families who are unable to pay even the minimal nightly fee.
The average stay for a family at the Family House is 2-3 days, however, many families will stay for weeks or months and return several times throughout the long course of their treatment. Many families travel distances and must take a leave of absence from their work. These facts, coupled with escalating medical costs and the current economy, put a tremendous financial strain on the family.
